Not even the “inclement” could put a damper on the 37th annual celebration of Lyons Good Old Days. There was a little something for everyone; carnival rides, midway games, food trucks, a beer tent, live music, bingo, dance performances, classic cars, class reunions, square dancing, softball games, history presentations, the boy scout yard sale, a 5K race, and oh yeah, a hail storm for the ages!
Nearly five hundred runners took part in the 5K River Run on Sunday morning, and the runners from Lyons did the town proud. The winner of the race was Andy Wacker, from Boulder, his girlfriend, training partner, and teammate (for the Boulder Running Company) Nicole Mericle took first place honors in the women’s race. For Lyons, the top male runners to cross the finish line were: Joel Such (8th place overall; 3rd in his division), Mike Sausa (14th; 4th), Jeffery Morris (21st; 5th), Erik Embervine (31st; 7th), and Peter Nagy (33rd; 3rd). The top female runner from Lyons was fourteen-year-old Sierra Tucker (51st overall; 3rd in her division), Connie Sullivan (53rd; 1st), Marcia Moore (65th;2nd), Kelsey Miner (67th; 4th), and Jene Foland (78th; 6th). Five-year-old Grant Kirkland was the youngest Lyons runner, and Calista Morrill was our eldest. Congratulations to all of those who participated,: it was a great way to finish the weekend festivities.
