Race officials estimate that over fifty thousand people turned out on Memorial Day to participate in the 2013 running of the Bolder Boulder.
The participants were decked out in everything from running gear to tutus, as well as a large contingency of left over Halloween costumes. It was definitely the best “people watching” experience to be had in Boulder County over the holiday weekend. One hundred and twelve of those
runners were from Lyons (over five percent of our population)! They represented a wide cross section of the Lyons community, from young high school runners fresh off their Track & Field State Championship, to families, local elected officials, teachers, friends, neighbors, and business owners. The Lyons runners ranged in age from six-year old Finn Klopson to seventy-three year old Lockett Wood.
The top five male and female finishers from Lyons were, Males: Marcel Such (age 17, 32 place overall, with a time of 33:30.45); Joel Such (age 15, 95 place, 35:23.07); Levi Stone (age 17, 1227 place, 43:49.99); Johnathan Baisley (age 22, 2099 place, 46:33.09); and David Such (age 53, 3415 place, 49:21.04). Females: Kelsey Miner (age 18, 2636 place, 47:53.41); Kaitlin Shepherd (age 19, 3077 place, 48:44.28); Kate Seifert (age 51, 4158 place, 50:36.12); Honna Swanson (age 17, 4745 place, 51:33.00); and Sierra Tucker (age 14, 4984 place, 51:53.28).
Congratulations to all the Lyons runners who laced up their running/walking shoes. You done Lyons proud
