Dear Board of Trustee members,
After forging the most thoughtful, inclusive regulations in the State of Colorado, we are being asked to overturn them by the tyranny of the referendum. There is a sunset clause in the regulations that could take place, if it were allowed to. The establishment
closest to the school is moving. Plus, we will reach our goal of a maximum of two establishments. That is everything that was agreed upon as a result of the many meetings that formulated our regulations.
Many people that signed the petition enabling a referendum also participated in the discussion that formulated the regulations. I want you to think about that. Is that negotiating in good faith? After an incredible amount of time, energy, and expense, we resort to the referendum device, because it’s easy. A couple of weekends collecting signatures; it’s easier to vote against something.
I for one will urge the citizens of Lyons to maintain their American Exceptionalism. Reject the referendum question, it is audacious and impatient.
