If you forgot to go to the open house at Town Hall two weeks ago concerning the purposed bus route between Lyons and Longmont (and you know most of you did, there were
only three citizens in attendance), you can still give your input, preferences, and ideas to Boulder County Transportation and RTD. An online survey, which only asks about a half dozen questions, and takes only a few moments to complete, is available at www.surveymonkey.com/s/5SSBZTR.
Boulder County and the Town of Lyons are working in conjunction with RTD to create an extension of the “Y” transit route from Lyons to Longmont. This service is proposed to begin in January 2012. The “Y” route extension will run two times per weekday from Lyons to Longmont and is targeted primarily to work/school commuters. The bus will run in peak direction only, from Lyons to Longmont twice in the morning and from Longmont to Lyons twice in the afternoon. The public’s help is needed to create the new bus route. Your ideas about the route, stops, arrival/departure times, and a name are being sought (editor’s note, we at The Lyons Recorder are advocating a write-in choice of “YNOT” since that is the question we want commuters to ask themselves; why not take the bus to Longmont?).
In other bus news, beginning Monday, August 22, RTD will be adding two additional runs on the “Y” route during the middle of the day. It is their hope that the addition of the new service will attract new riders by making transit more viable to Lyons residents. This is particularly true for people who don’t have the standard 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, including students and those who have appointments or errands to run during the daytime that typically take two to four hours. These people will now have the option of using transit to get to Boulder without the need of staying for the entire day before the first return bus (formerly at 4:10 p.m.) Starting August 22, there will be a new northbound Boulder to Lyons bus departing Boulder at 11 a.m., and a second one at 12:20 p.m. The new southbound bus from Lyons to Boulder will depart Lyons at 11:42 a.m., and a second mid-day bus at 1:02 p.m.
