Kenyan Japheth Ng’ojoy and Nuta Olaru of Romania took first place honors in the men’s and women’s (respectively) 2011 Lyons 5K River Run on Sunday. Ng’ojoy, who trains in
Greeley, crossed the finish line in a time of 15:37, easily out distancing twenty-year old LHS alum Andrew Roberts (of the “Running Roberts” fame, his dad is the track & field coach, and all his siblings either run for or will run for [we hope] the LHS track team). Olaru, who now lives in Longmont, beat her nearest competitor by a whopping one minute and forty-eight seconds.
Technically (the Roberts list Boulder as their place of residency), Chris Legh was the first Lyons resident to finish (4th overall, 1st in age group), followed by Dylan Donohoe (17th), Joel (age 13) and Marcel (age 15) Such (24th and 25th), and Mike Grady (26th) rounding out the top five Lyons finishers. Thirteen-year old Paul Roberts, younger brother of you-know-who, won his age division by finishing an impressive 8th overall (the future looks bright for LHS track). His sister Miriam (age 15) won her age division, finishing 45th overall, just four seconds faster than brother Issac (age 9, 46th overall), and completing the Roberts team finish, was Sarah (age 11, 3rd in her age group). The top five women finishers from Lyons were: Lauren Ivision (58th), Connie Sullivan (63rd), Julie Brothers (69th), Brenna Willis (84th), and Jennifer Karsel (95th).
Congratulations and well done to all the Lyons residents who ran the race. You done us proud! For the complete results of the race go to www.active.com, click on race results, then 2011 Lyons River Run 5K, then searchable results. It’s easier than it sounds.
