If you share our love of plants and our desire to create a botanic garden here in Lyons—a beautiful, educational garden featuring Colorado native plants—please join us. The foothills environment in Lyons, where the South and North Forks of St. Vrain Creek meet, creates an exceptional setting for the Rocky Mountain Botanic Gardens (RMBG), which will include a visitor’s center and greenhouses, as well as an interactive children’s garden and a library.
RMBG will reflect the diverse environments found in Colorado, including: prairie grasslands, a cactus garden, a riparian garden featuring plants that grow near rivers, a foothills forest area with ponderosa pines, and an alpine wildflower garden.
The mission of RMBG is to foster understanding and appreciation of our native plants and wildlife, to create a place where visitors of all ages can enjoy the peace and beauty of the natural world, and to help visitors become active stewards of our planet.
RMBG is a non-profit organization that will be open to the public all year. It will be available to rent for weddings, conferences, and other events. We also plan to offer classes like native plant identification, gardening with native plants, and creating backyard habitats that will attract birds and butterflies.
We need your help to create the rocky mountain botanic gardens!
LAND - We are currently looking for at least five acres that can be permanently set aside for the Gardens, preferably a property with diverse native vegetation near St. Vrain Creek and access to irrigation water. We are working with the Town of Lyons to identify potential parcels in the public domain and are also considering private donations of land for the Gardens.
MEMBERSHIPS AND DONATIONS - Tax-deductible donations are being accepted to purchase land and equipment and help with start-up costs. You can also become a member of RMBG. Annual membership dues are: Individual $25, Student $15, Family $35, and Supporter $100. Members will receive a ten percent discount on all RMBG merchandise. All annual membership dues contributed before the opening of the Gardens will be honored during the first year we are open.
VOLUNTEER - There are many ways you can contribute your time and talent to help make the RMBG a reality, helping with fundraising, garden design and construction, education programs, publicity, and so much more.
