The synchronized music/light show in Sandstone Park was terrific (Thanks, Kyle Miller). The Holiday Bazaar at Lyons Elementary was a big success, as was the Golden
Gang’s Craft Fair over at Oddfellow’s Hall. A large overflow crowd lined Main Street for the Parade of Lights, the caroling in the park was well attended, and far and away, this year’s fireworks display was the best ever! Big kudos to the Lyons Parks & Rec. Department (Dave Cosgrove and Marissa Davis) and all of those who put in so much time and effort to make this past weekend really special. Thank-you all, this is why we live in Lyons.
The various parade winners for 2010’s “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree” were: Marching – Boulder County Color Guard, Motorized – Old Fire Engine #3, Band – Fort Lupton High School Marching Band, Youth – Hygiene Fire & Cub Scouts, Horse – U.S. Marshall Posse, Float – Lyons Portable Welding, Best Representation of Theme – Wild Welchers, Best Use of Lights – The River Community Church, and Overall Parade Winner – Mayama Movement Studio.
In what can only be described as “a bit of a Grinch” moment, Administrator Victoria Simonsen reports that some significant vandalism was perpetrated in Meadow Park over the weekend. All four walls of both the bathrooms were “tagged” with spray painted “gang-type” graffiti, and the newly installed red and green lights in the fountain in Sandstone Park were smashed. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office investigated, and found that the responsible parties stepped in the paint they used, leaving footprints, and they left the spray cans, leaving fingerprints. With any luck, the hooligans will be apprehended shortly. At best, the scoundrels should expect nothing but coal in their stockings this Christmas. The Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with possible information about this crime, please contact them at 303-441-4444.
