Kyle Miller is setting up the lights in Sandstone Park (around and near the Visitor’s Center) for this year’s spectacular holiday light show. You may remember last year, when Miller set up lights in the western portion of the park, and had the display synchronized by computer to Christmas music. It was really quite a welcome addition to the season’s festivities (Parade of Lights, fireworks, holiday bazaar, etc.) This year the show will be bigger and better.
Miller, a native of Lyons and employee for the Town’s Public Works Department, pays for all the sound and lighting equipment out of his own pocket, for the benefit of the community. This year in addition to more lights, etc., he has had to find the funds for more electrical extension cords; sixty more to be exact! At the cost of about $10 per cord, it adds up quickly.
If anyone in the community is interested in helping to defray this expense, donations for the Lyons Holiday Light/Sound show can be dropped of at Town Hall during regular business hours, in care of Kyle Miller. Any and all contributions will be greatly appreciated.
The holiday light/music show will be on display Thursday and Friday, December 2 and 3, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, December 4, the show will be sandwiched around the parade and fireworks: 5 to 6 p.m., and then 8 to 9 p.m. The Parade of Lights (this year’s theme is “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree”) will take place down Main Street at 6:30 p.m., and this year will feature the music of three marching bands! Lyons High School, Aurora Central, and Ft. Lupton. Following the parade, there will be Christmas caroling at the Vasquez Stage in Sandstone Park with the Lyons High School Choir. After the fireworks, awards for the parade will be given out at the stage. The River Church will be providing free hot chocolate and snacks in the park, with donations accepted for Lyons Historical Society.
Marissa Davis of Lyons Parks & Rec. says there is still time to get your entry from in (see form in this week’s paper). Businesses, civic groups, or neighborhoods are invited to create a float and join the fun. Let’s make this parade the best ever! Entry forms for the parade, and the home and/or business holiday decorating contest can be picked up at Town Hall, or on the Town’s website, www.townoflyons.com, or if you prefer, Marissa can email you one. For more information about the parade or the holiday decorating contest, call Parks & Rec. at 303-823-8250.
Also happening on the same weekend are the Depot Library fundraiser Holiday Bazaar in the gym at Lyons Elementary School, Saturday, December 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, December 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Golden Gang will also be holding their annual Christmas Crafts Fair and Chili Luncheon on Saturday afternoon, December 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be sure and stop by and fill your belly with some nice warm chili before the parade!
