Dear parents, siblings, alumni, and friends of the Lyons High School Band:
In an effort to teach students the value of lifelong musicianship as well as to take advantage of an opportunity to draw our community together, I would like to invite you to perform with the Lyons High School
Band for the Friday, September 24 Homecoming football game halftime show. Don’t worry if you haven’t played in years - we’ll help you out and we’ll have a great time at it! This year we will have Bill Woods, a bagpipe virtuoso, join us on the field for a rousing performance of “Highland Cathedral”.
Here are the details:
Find your old instrument and get it ready to play. Oil those valves, get a reed, and grease those corks. If you no longer have an instrument, call me and we’ll try to find one for you.
Come to a short rehearsal just before the game (6:00pm in the Lyons Band room) to read through the halftime music. If you want to play but would like to see the music before the first rehearsal, call me and I’ll gladly send you copies.
At the game: join us for the short halftime show. Marching will be easy - we will walk onto the field, play the music, and walk back off! Everyone is welcome to join us in the stands to play pep-band music during 1st, 2nd, and 4th quarters. We won’t rehearse the pep-band music prior to the game.
If you would like to participate, please call or email me at Lyons Middle Senior High School and leave me your name, phone number and instrument on the voice mail system. Please let me know if you need to borrow an instrument from the school and I’ll contact you ASAP.
It is my sincere hope that many of you will choose to take part in this special activity. I hope to see you there!
