On behalf of the Lyons Clarifier Project, we would like to sincerely thank all those who participated in our LCP Open House/Workday held last Sunday, September 12, especially our loyal volunteers, supporters and sponsors.
With surface application in full swing, it’s a very exciting phase of the Project.
We made wonderful progress on our sandstone trees and lower “earth” section of handmade tiles and mosaic, as well as our river rock trim base. The GAP (Generational Active People) intergenerational group will be joining us for the next two Wednesdays to help out. The Church of Latter Day Saints youth group recently helped clear the area and gather river rock. Community workdays will continue as long as weather permits. (Check the website for work schedules and more information.) Work continues indoors through the late fall, winter and early spring: the GAP/Golden Gang will be working on a giant sun tile project (to be installed on the west side); community members will be creating twelve mosaic signs of the Zodiac for the rim “night sky” areas.
Surface application will continue next spring.
To the “mischief makers” who visited the site, mixed cement and added pieces to the north tree- we’d so like to have you come work with us! We’ll show you how to do it right. It’s much easier in daylight, and you’ll have a lot of fun. No special art or work skills necessary. We’re learning, too!
We continue to hold the vision of this marvelous, sparkling, inspiring, enduring piece of community art by the river; public art created for the community and by the community. We need your help to bring this vision, and gift, into being-yet another facet of Lyons’ marvelous ‘renaissance’.
Please check the work schedule and set aside a time to participate. Bring your family and friends.
You won’t regret it.
