One crazy thought that might not be so nuts. I don’t know what kind of acreage is available for development in our eastern corridor, but Naropa University is looking for land in Boulder County to build a campus. Lyons would be the perfect location. Our outstanding music, art, and recreation provide the perfect small town for a small university. The economic boom would carry our town through the winter months. When many students are gone in the summer we would have a normal tourist season. Yes, there would be traffic concerns, but Naropa would promote all of the sustainable ideas we value as a community. Our town eco-pass would provide easy access to Boulder for off-campus housing and other student needs. I believe a college campus matches the mixed-use idea promoted by our town leaders. Student housing, classrooms, offices, large gathering halls, and other amenities of a college would be amazing benefits for the entire community.
Again, the idea may be completely unworkable, but my guess is that Lyons has much more to offer than the rest of Boulder County cities. We would all benefit from all of the wonderful events that happen in a college town. Naropa would feel like they had found heaven!
