It takes only one slug, one rotten spot in a pumpkin to kill the entire fruit of the seed planted. From that moment on there is no return to the value placed in planting the seed, its embodied positive energy and promise. Yet the green bean has the ability to become rotten here & there without infecting the rest of the plant. Its isolated attack between two beans can be sliced for remaining parts in a favored recipe, enjoying a garden-to-table meal like no other. You may get the impression this is about food, seeds, gardening.
Our Sustainable Futures Commission has grown healthy branches. If you’ve heard of or have attended an SFC workshop at the Walt Self Center, you are already a stalwart Green Bean, making new fresh salads for Sustainable Lyons. Yes, do you know? When you go to the Town of Lyons website, http://sustainablelyons.townoflyons.com/ you will see a big change: we’re considered ‘Sustainable Lyons’ as implemented via our Town of Lyons Comprehensive Plan. Our strong Sustainability, Permaculture and Transition Town basic precepts brand our lasting uniqueness. It is so empowering to sustain a front-line show-stopper town and recover enjoyment of splendiferous night skies through Modeling our Double Gateway to the Rockies!
Lyons’ quality as we wish it, is detailed in the Comp Plan you arduously shaped by public process for well over a year. We have a Sustainable Lyons base, nurturing its green bean ability to grow slowly with many highly capable inputs from those who work and live here. Giving ourselves to any one irreversible rotten spot of Big Box (‘formula business’) along our Eastern Corridor (CEC) zone makes no sense. Say Yes to seeking and developing riparian businesses which defend our wildlife, and build on our natural river lungs to shape appropriate local value-added commercial production that attracts.
Big Box Stores and a strip-mall character are sure death to Lyons. Will the PCDC allow big real-estate deals that favor big box enterprise? You will repeatedly hear the term, ‘formula business’ for commercial businesses that spoil every look and feel of a small town, (witness the devastation of old gem towns across our entire nation). You will avoid triggering a big hole where money goes out into the tapeworm economy, away via big banks that tell our town how to look, feel and become. You will be heard! Come and Speak Your Stories!
Catherine Austin-Fitts and Hunter Lovins are treasures, growing financial best-case place-centric efficiency scenarios for big corporations and municipalities with huge success. They honor that proceeds from town endeavors will stimulate powerful business case scenarios via Natural Capitalism, Financial Permaculture, Earth-Based Green Business and low carbon care that keeps a town growing, growing, growing in unending steps, while all other towns implode at each economic downturn.
Yes, the one rotten spot in the green bean here and there can weather world-induced assaults to Lyons’ character. Defend the green bean community character we still have. Be watchful. Stop each clobbering ordinance, each single law and terminator monoculture from wedging its development along the Eastern Corridor. Don’t let annexation create a Lyons planning area monoculture that generates money to foreign places. Big money cannot make its kill on Lyons. It makes no sense. We can avoid being a collapsed pumpkin that soon melts-- by not allowing ‘formula businesses’ anywhere along the CEC.
‘Ye all come’ May 9th and June 6th 7pm, Friends, Family and Children, speak out your story! This is your unique opportunity. Defend your individual and community Quality-of-Life. Lyons circulating inner wealth is the best-proven practice for future growth. Use the empowerment of the green bean among diverse healthy ecologies to keep us healthy. The good is so quickly toppled. Takeovers are silent, often unseen, until wham, no returning.
Lyons needs constant directional push by you who care, and not have income vanish into few huge pockets. We all gain making growth locally, unlike our centralized government that is a perfect example of what not to do here in Lyons. Say NO to ‘formula businesses’, NO big box monocultures. Say YES to diversity of which we boast a huge heap across every field of endeavor. Tell the PCDC and your BOT we want to stay unique, caring for each other, resilient and growing in best ways only we can determine.
Keep up the alert. Be in possession of our integrated facilities, our successes, look, feel and inspirational qualities. All ye come out and make thunder!
For all that’s Best in Lyons,
