Another year has gone by, and so has another successful Thanksgiving food drive. Once again, the Town of Lyons community has come together and has
shown its immense support for the 2010 Turkey Exchange. With the community’s support, 45 local families were provided with a complete Thanksgiving meal which includes a 12-20 pound turkey, a meal box with all the fixings for a festive meal including fresh produce and handcrafted treats and a pie.
I would like to give special thanks to the following businesses, organizations and individuals: The Redstone Review and The Lyons Recorder for advertising and promoting this Town of Lyons sponsored event; Lisa Rose, the Lyons Community Care Coordinator, for organizing the senior citizen requirements; Lyons Middle Senior High School for sponsoring this year’s canned food collection; Oskar Blues for providing the space to organize deliveries and pick ups; Cub Scout Pack 61 for their donated food boxes, beautifully made, hand crafted centerpieces, and their assist with deliveries to the senior citizen participants in the program; the Student Activists for their festively decorated place mats, and their physical labor of sorting and organizing food boxes; Lyons Community Church and the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints for providing 18 complete meals for this event; The Lyons Lions Club for a very generous monetary donation; Stone Bridge Farm for donating a variety of organic squash & onions for each box; Madhava honey for providing a jar of honey for every box; Michelle Bastien and Carrie Gonzales for putting together spice donations and homemade candles; Jimmy Pollard of Pollard Motors for donating forty 20-pound turkeys; and to Marissa Casey, her mother Phyllis, and Rachel Slauson, who assisted me with distribution of the meals.
I would also like to send my heartfelt appreciation to the numerous community members who provided monetary donations. With these donations, I was able to purchase the necessary items needed to complete a food box.
Thank you to all of you who generously donated your food, money, time, creativity, and blessings for this event. I continue to be truly amazed at the abundance of support and effort generated by the Lyons community when it comes to helping our neighbors. Paula Randazzo, MA Town of Lyons Youth Specialist
