Registration is now open for the sixth-annual Venus de Miles, Colorado’s first and only organized all-women’s road bike ride, taking place on Sunday, September 29, in Boulder County. The ride route will again pass through Lyons (late morning to early afternoon), using the Lyons Elementary School playground as a rest station, with snacks, live music, and a comfort station.
From accomplished cyclists to new riders, Venus de Miles is a non-competitive event offering women of all ages and abilities a fun-filled day of cycling and socializing for a worthy cause; Greenhouse Scholars, which provides layered support to high-performing, under-resourced students including mentorship, professional networking , peer support, internship, Summer Symposium , situational flex funding , and tuition scholarship .
Riders select from three different courses, depending on their skill level; a 100-mile century ride, a 65-mile ride, or a 28-mile ride. A costumed “Men in Drag” team, comprised of twenty male riders, passionate about the cause, offer both mechanical assistance along each of the three courses and general event support. A post-ride celebration follows at Longmont’s Prospect Park featuring gourmet food, live music, craft beer, cocktails, and exhibitors with products and services geared toward women.
“Venus de Miles brings community members together in support of inspiring young leaders,” said Andra Pool, chief operating officer, Greenhouse Scholars, who recently announced the organization’s largest-ever class of Scholars (the Class of 2017). “At Greenhouse Scholars, we are committed to helping create real and lasting change in the lives of our Scholars and their communities.”
Participants who register for Venus de Miles before September 1, secure an “early bird” registration fee of $89. The price increases to $99 on or by September 22 and $129 the day of the Sunday, September 29 event. In addition to this registration fee, participants are asked to fundraise $75 in support of Greenhouse Scholars. All of the money raised directly supports the organization’s Scholars.
