Ambassador programs are a key ingredient of many successful Chambers of Commerce. They serve as two-way communication links between the Chamber and its members. Not only does it provide another opportunity for members to learn more about what the Chamber is doing for member businesses, it provides a vital information link to coordinate community promotions and increase the effectiveness of activities, events and programs that benefit the local economy.
Ambassadors are selected from the individuals recommended by Chamber Members. Candidates must have a basic knowledge of the Chamber and its purpose and be highly motivated to meet members at Chamber events and at business sites. In addition, two high school students will be identified to develop future business leaders.
To prepare for a two-year voluntary commitment candidates must be willing to participate in an orientation program that will provide detailed information about the Chamber and its programs and an overview of the various organizations in and around Lyons that serve the community as well as information about State, County, and Town government and the impacts on the business environment. Skill development sessions will be provided to help participants to serve as effective Ambassadors
Ambassadors will visit Chamber members and interested non-members to inform them of Chamber benefits and collect information that would improve the Chamber’s services. They will help coordinate participation in events and programs and facilitate communications.
According to JJ Booksh-Asnicar, President of the Lyons Area Chamber of Commerce participants in the Ambassador Program will benefit in a number of ways. They will gain exposure to local business and government leaders. In addition, they will have opportunities to introduce their business skill and capabilities to the overall community. The Chamber will recognize their contributions on the Chamber website and they will be featured in some of the Chamber publications. Best of all, they will enhance their communication, business relationship, and leadership capabilities while learning new skills and techniques.
