Watch out America! Beverage World announced that Oskar Blues took the Gold as the “breakout brand of the year” in their analysis of all beverages in the market today. Oskar Blues craft canned beer
apocalypse continues by riding high above TY KU Sake, New Leaf Tea, FRS Healthy Energy Drinks, MonaVie açai berry drinks and Guayakí Yerba Mate as the “breakout brand of the year.”
What began as a joke, Oskar Blues Owner Dale Ketchis, decided to use a hand canning line to put great craft beer in a can in the 60-year-old barn next door to their funky little brewpub in Lyons, Colo. Since Oskar Blues “decided to flip tradition the bird and fully embrace aluminum as not only a viable packaging option but its ONLY packaging option,” they have seen an 80 percent growth rate during a period of economic recession, states Beverage World. In the past year Oskar Blues has gone through three phases of expansion in the full-throttle canning operation now in Longmont, Colo. As the first of 75 breweries canning craft beer, Oskar Blues is quickly expanding its cult-like following across the nation. Oskar Blues remains true to its original mission of simply blowing minds with what can come out of a can of beer.
As Dale says in Beverage World, “We were the can guys. Early on we had an advantage because we weren’t trying to add a canning line to a current bottling line, this was our baby, so we wanted to drive it home. We wanted to educate everyone that it’s a better package, period. In order to do that we truly had to have 110 percent buy-in. The biggest advantage was that we bought in early to the idea and we’re still riding that wave.” Oskar Blues brewery is known for stuffing complex, three- and four- dimensional beers into 12 oz. cans. As cans become a fashionable package, Oskar Blues continues to walk-the-walk by brewing and canning beer they want to drink. Set in the heart of Colorado craft beer country.
