The Outlaw Saloon and Brightwood Music are excited to introduce changes to their Wednesday night open mic night. In the past few months they have welcomed a growing community of musicians and music enthusiasts from all genres and they look forward to continuing and contributing to the diverse musical offerings of Lyons. The objective of the Outlaw open mic is to create musical community in a non-intimidating environment where individuals at all levels can experience

the rewards of playing onstage, working with other musicians and supporting one another in musical goals.

One of the original co-hosts, Dave Long, has decided to pursue musical projects outside of open mic. Picking up where he left off, they now welcome Hunter Hamilton. A Lyons resident, Hamilton is originally from Memphis, and he is a talented singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Lori Flynn, a local singer-songwriter, will continue as co-host.

The open mic is structured to provide a stage for existing solo/group acts as well as a space for individual musicians to join one another for a more creative, free-flowing jam type atmosphere. They’ve enjoyed presenting music from first time performers as well as established musicians, with an eclectic range of instruments from didgeridoo to electric fiddle. If you’ve been pondering digging an instrument out of the garage, or picking up a new one, this is the place to start your journey. You can look them up and join their online community at Facebook.com/OutlawJam.

Additionally, they are pleased to partner with Brightwood Music, now offering Lyons a variety of services for local, traveling, and budding musicians of all styles and levels. If it’s past closing time and you are lucky enough to run into Brightwood’s owner, Doug Armitage, more often than not he’ll offer to go over there and help you out on the spot. Brightwood has a full line of electric and acoustic guitars for sale, fiddles, mandolins, basses, accessories like picks, sticks, harmonicas, and more as well as musical offerings like lessons and workshops.

The Outlaw Saloon is located at 160 East Main Street in Lyons. Open mic is every Wednesday night from 8 to 10 p.m.; sometimes a little later if the music is flowing. They also offer a billiards tournament the same night and are excited to announce the addition of Dave Rodefer, of Dave’s Diner, who will be moving his diner into the adjacent restaurant (formerly Taco Don Jose), and will be offering full menu service through the Outlaw Saloon.
