Tuesdays), you may have noticed a lot of activity taking place on the roof of the historic building. Wayne and Debbie Anderson (proprietors of the establishment), through Boulder County’s ClimateSmart Program, have installed a solar water heater for the restaurant, and have also blown in some insulation in the ceiling of the 130 year-old building. Wayne said he went up into the crawlspace and, “There wasn’t a bit of insulation up there! It’s no wonder it was like oven in the summer, and a walk-in freezer in the winter.” He added, “The water heater is really neat, and works great, and the new insulation will have an R-factor of something like 50, so that will make a big difference in customer comfort.” Local plumber Jim Carroll, with Plumbing Partners, has been doing the installation of the solar water heater.
The Andersons are pleased to announce that they will be hosting a special “Holiday Beer and Cheese” pairing this Sunday afternoon (December 19) from 2 to 5 p.m. They will be featuring interesting artisanal cheeses, paired with beers from the Avery and Stone Brewing Companies. Ala Carte pricing per pairing is available, as well as a price fixe rate for entire tasting. For more information and/or reservations, please call 303-823-5014
Continuing the “Sunday Evening Music Series,” this week features the Lyons musical powerhouse couple Brian and Erin Schey. Brian has been playing and producing records for over twenty years, with over eighty albums under his belt. Erin studied voice and theater at M.I.T. and Wellesley College and has taught music and youth theater for over 15 years. The two talented musicians formed the gypsy jazz combo Rue, and have graced the Planet Bluegrass stage at FolksFest and other local venues with Michelle Shocked, Uncle Earl, et al. The music starts at 7:30 p.m., and there is no cover charge.
As far as the “re-naming” of the restaurant goes, Anderson says, “The public has been very supportive, and enthusiastic!” Some suggestions that have been offered are: Lyons Den, Lyons Lair, Lyons Main, Lyons Supper Club, Lytown Station, Right On Main, The Cairn, St. Vrain Inn, St. Vrain Pub, St. Vrain, Gateway Pub, and McCallister Saloon. Wayne says he has one, which he is particularly fond of, but of course, as all husbands know, Debbie will have the final say (Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?).
