“Comfort food” is just what the name suggests; homemade soups (red bean chili, split pea, chicken & rice, creamy cheese & potato, Italian meatball soup, and even a lasagna soup!), gourmet hot dogs, sausages, bratwursts, chicken sausages, sandwiches (grilled cheese, BLT, ham & cheese, and turkey), plus incredible burgers for everyone’s taste. Mayor Julie Van Domelen said she had a veggie burger the other day that was “the best I’ve ever had!” Rodefer also makes a range of sides like French fries, baked beans, slaw, and potato salad to accompany the burgers, dogs, and sandwiches. On Friday and Saturday nights, the menu includes specials like roasted chicken and/or meat loaf with mashers and salad. And if you prefer, you can call ahead (303-823-6049), and he’ll have everything ready for you to “take out.” If you have a sweet tooth, fear not; homemade cakes and pies are always on the menu. They can also be special ordered ahead of time for the holidays or special occasions (Rodefer is now taking orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas).
Growing up in Wisconsin, Rodefer comes from a restaurant family; his parents ran several while he was growing up. Six years ago (Dec. 28) he left the -35° weather in the Dairy State for the balmy 50° winter climate of Lyons to help cook pizzas at his sister’s (Denise Braly) restaurant Scarpelli’s. There is still a difference of opinion between siblings about who helped who out the most: Dave by helping in the restaurant, or Denise by getting her bro out of the frozen tundra!
