Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged to attend. Plans include a new church sanctuary, staff offices, and meeting/study rooms. The new building will help to alleviate crowding at St. Francis’ current temporary site, and will provide room for future growth. Pending a review by Longmont City officials, the actual groundbreaking will begin on or about September 15.
The ceremony follows closely on the heels of an ongoing, ambitious three-year building fund campaign in which the church was required to raise 1.7 million dollars by June of this year. The church surpassed this preliminary goal and continues to make progress toward the ultimate goal of 2.25 million dollars.
To offer your volunteer time or talent to the drive, please call the church at (303) 772-6322, or visit St. Francis of Assisi Church at 2410 B Trade Centre Avenue in Longmont, or go online to the church website at www.saintfrancislongmont.org. A special opportunity is currently being offered for the building fund through a matching grant (every new dollar donated earns a matching dollar, up to $25,000). All donations are gratefully accepted. If you would like to donate to the building fund, please call Fr. Frank Maroney at the above phone number, or mail your check to the church.
In October of 2007, the Catholic parish moved to its current interim site at Trade Centre Avenue to better serve Catholics in Longmont and the surrounding area. St. Francis of Assisi was selected as the parish patron by vote of the parishioners at the time of the move. Both changes have invigorated the parish; it has now grown to its current size of over 500 registered families.
