Another week gone by! School starts this Thursday, the Folks Festival Festival starts on Friday.
We hope the weather will stay cool. What a hot summer we have had, over 90 days of over 90 degrees! The hottest in 54 years! This global warming is bad for the universe! What can we do about the changing of the world!

If a King of Comedy was crowned at the Lyons senior center, it would have to be Don Hunt. He brought jokes and songs to the seniors on many occasions over the years, but due to health concerns, he retired his repertoire in spring.

Yes, another hot week gone by, but luckily a little rain. The cornfields are drying up, but they say there is a good wheat crop. What will the farmers do when they have to borrow money for seed, and then don’t have a crop? It is a dire situation. Let it rain!
Do You Need $1 Million To Retire?

It’s always an interesting experiment to ask people how much money (in today’s dollars) they think they will need to retire comfortably. I’ve found that a lot of folks like to throw out the nice, round figure of $1 million. It’s a reasonable guess, but usually it’s just that: a guess. I wanted to dig deeper and figure out just what it takes to retire comfortably at age 65.

Another hot week gone by, 100 degrees most every day “down in the valley.” People who have a thermometer in their cars notice the change in the temperature as they come into Lyons; it’s usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler. I have always heard Lyons was about 10 degrees cooler, and know that when you get to the Rte. 36/66 junction, you feel a welcomed breeze coming down the canyons.
