Lyons New Trees, One Hundred Percent Living!

The new trees planted by volunteers last spring have broken dormancy. In spite of a harsh early freeze last fall that caused some damage, all the new trees are growing.  Way to go, Volunteers!

The first winter after transplant is critical for new tree survival. The top-notch planting care given by the planting teams, and follow-up maintenance by Public Works, Parks and others, helped achieve this welcome result.

Another week gone by, some nice days, but it’s still raining. We are susceptible to uncomfortable memories, and although the river rose to over 1400 cubic feet per second, it was much, much higher during the flood! True, it is scary, though.

Leroy Robert York

Leroy Robert York, 75, passed away peacefully on May 1, in Pueblo. He was born June 4, 1939 in Waukegan, Illinois to Robert and Amanda (Pritzl) York.  On February 14, 1958 he married Jenny (DeYoung) York in McHenry, Illinois. Roy and his family moved to Lyons, in 1969.

Another week gone by, and a rainy one at that, with two inches of rain in April (however, the most was in 1876 with 8.7 inches in April). The flowers, lilac trees, and spirea are beautiful. “It is springtime in the Rockies.”
