Keeping Lyons Fit! with Mary Chase

So an idea occurred to a friend and I this summer on a run about town. What if we held an event, such as a 5K in Lyons? We could follow it by cocktails. Mimosas seemed natural as 5K’s are usually a morning event. This event would not only celebrate the end of summer, the kiddos headed back to school, but also a charitable cause. Thus the Mimosa Day 5K was born. I am proud to report that the event attracted well over sixty women last Saturday, and a fabulous post-party at the Lyons Fork. For an event, which I had

Another hot week gone by.  Mr. O’Dell said his kids are sweltering in the elementary school gym. Wow, a hundred degrees are too much. If you have some ideas as to how we can get air conditioning in the gym, let us know; grants, fundraisers, volunteers, reduction of price, donations, etc. (303) 823-5925.

Sundays in September

By Dave McIntyre, Lyons Bluesologist

Sundays at Oskar Blues in Lyons have become my favorite shows, I love the more mellow music and enjoy watching the youngsters and oldsters dancing and enjoy the tunes together. These are all early 6 to 9 p.m., free, and all ages’ shows, and are usually very well attended. I have often been asked why we don’t charge for these shows; the answer is Dale and I want to give some free music back to the community as a thank you for all their support in helping us bring live music to Lyons. In September we have a

Lyons Summer History Day Camp

Lyons Summer History Day Camp

By Kathleen Spring

Imagine it taking all day to go from Lyons to Boulder? And, carrying enough food with you to last a year? These are some of the extraordinary tales that the kids attending this year’s Redstone Museum’s Summer History Day Camp heard about life in the mid-19th century in Colorado, when pioneers came in their covered wagons.

The camp this year focused on early settlers to the Lyons area, including Colorado trading posts and the state’s cultural heritage.

The young campers, ages seven to eleven, learned about life in Lyons at the turn of the century through interactive lessons, creative scenarios, decorative crafts, and a treasure hunt through the collected old treasures at the museum.  Each day, the children
