Another week gone by, and an important one. School started last Thursday, with a “Meet and Greet” your teacher at the Elementary, and “Back to School Nights” etc. A thrilling time for the little ones, finally school; for the 6th graders, finally in Middle School, and of course for the 9th graders, finally in High School. Most of all for the seniors, I finally made it. Good luck to all.
We are ever proud of the fact that Lyons stays in the top for studies. We may be small but we are mighty. We note in the Department of Education’s Transitional Colorado Assessment

If it’s mid-August with afternoon showers, and the kids are back at school, it must be time for FolksFest. The twenty-third annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, a.k.a., “Summit on the Song” got underway Monday morning with the always-popular prelude, the Song School. Grace Ellen Snyder was born to a Pioneer farm family on March 30, 1928, near Berthoud, CO. Grace was the fifth child of nine to bless this family. Her young life was spent on the family farm, learning the lessons of this hard life, in preparation for the eventual large family that she raised. Grace met and married the love of her life, George Harvic French, and they married in Boulder, on April 27, 1944. George and Grace lived on a farm North of Hygiene until 1949, when they relocated to West of Lyons. Here, she raised five of their six children, hauling water, and with no electricity for several years. They lived here until 1960, when they moved into the Town of Lyons, where they finished raising their family. Grace

This week begins the transitions for kids returning to school after a playful and sometimes exhausting summer. To spare yourself and your little ones the stress and upheaval of a new routine, prepare their bodies for the transition.
The transition to living a life on schedule is a dramatic shift in some households where kids have been able to sleep in to their hearts content. Sleep deprivation can

How long were you gone
From the corner of my eye?
And then came back
Full of wrath
And evil words
Of doom and retribution.
Where did you go
In that blink of an eye?
To become a lost lover
In my heart
And blurring my vision.

Editor’s Note: Lyons resident Kelly Yelverton recently graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. To celebrate her accomplishment, she and a friend have decided to paddle their sea kayaks on a 1200-mile journey through the Inside Passage to Alaska. She will be sending updates and photos of her adventure throughout the summer.
