About Town - July 10, 2014

Another week gone by, where we all celebrated the Fourth of July. Wonderful weather, lots of picnics and family gatherings, a carnival in Longmont, fireworks in most towns (except Louisville). We sat on the hill at the Lookout

Insatiable
Alexa DiSalvo

Drunken drawings
scribbled on skin
tattoos
I section your body
Will I ever get enough?
So, with pen I ration smooth parts
and rougher ones
the calloused palm
I read like brail
even though I know
That story
by heart
When we’re apart
I shuffle barefoot and bones
malnourished
depraved
reprimanding my indecent hunger
Still, by night hour
mouth tongue fingers
devour...
Meticulous blueprint
blurs wet
ink stains and gloss
So lost
Even though I know
That map by heart.

Matisse And Friends

The Denver Art Museum (DAM) will host the exhibition Matisse and Friends: Selected Masterworks from the National Gallery of Art, October 12, 2014 through February 8, 2015. Matisse and Friends will showcase fourteen paintings from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., by artists Henri Matisse, André Derain, Albert Marquet, Maurice de Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Georges Braque and Kees Van Dongen.

“Matisse and Friends is a perfect complement to the dazzle of Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century on view upstairs,” said Christoph Heinrich, Director of the Denver Art Museum. “The DAM has created an in-gallery oasis for our visitors to bask in the visual delight of these vibrant paintings.”
The artists featured in Matisse and Friends shocked the art world with their raw approach and triggered a succession of innovative movements in modern art. Working in and around Paris at the turn of the 20th century, these artists were part of a creative community that sought to redefine painting, favoring an expressive style that emphasized loose brushwork and bold colors.

Roads Traveled with Linda L. Osmundson
One summer we entertained six groups of visitors. We put two couples on the plane in which my in-laws arrived. I had no time to even change the sheets. We toured Colorado’s Front Range six times. With that in mind, what do you want your visitors to experience while in the Front Range area? Here are some suggestions for day trips.
