About Town - March 13, 2014

Another week gone by; a spring snow came last Thursday night and it is now rain and snow this week. It is getting very scary how much snow is in the high country; with hopes that it stays cool this spring and it comes down gradually. Everyone is very skittish and concerned.

You can vote in the Town election if you still have your Lyons address or P.O. Box. You should get your ballot by mail in a couple of weeks.  If not, contact Debbie Anthony at the Town Hall.

Another week gone by. Cold, icy, and now nice. That is Colorado. We can be lucky we don’t live back east. Time for LHS track and baseball so we need some good weather.

THE FLOOD: The only good thing I can think of about the flood, is that it helped us get acquainted with our neighbors, with others about town, with FEMA folks throughout the world (such as Maryland, Puerto Rico, Oklahoma), with state and county folks, with those from neighboring towns, with volunteers groups, etc. It has brought people together,

Bonnie And Taylor Sims

By David McIntyre, Lyons Bluesologist

I recently sat down with my favorite musical couple, Taylor and Bonnie Sims. There was so much going on in their collective careers that I wanted to get it straight from their lips.

Let’s start with how they arrived on the local music scene. In 2003 Taylor relocated from Texas to Gunnison Colorado to work on a ranch there. He and Alex Johnstone and Chris Elliott started playing music together and a bond began. They moved back to Texas and with Jessica Smith recorded their first CD there as Spring Creek bluegrass band.
