About Town with Lavern Johnson February 9, 2012

Wow, what a lot of good wet snow.  Just what we needed!  However, schools were cancelled.  I think the School District has a few “snow” days planned, and we don’t want to endanger the students waiting for the bus or taking them to school in the early morning.  We do have to say, Lyons is in the “Banana” Belt,  not as much snow, not so cold, nor not much wind, and it melted fast.

Managing Your Weight

Free Health Lecture in Broomfield

It’s no secret that the United States has a major weight problem. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 70 percent of U.S. adults aged 20 years and older are either overweight or obese. If these rates stay at that high level, Americans will face substantial health problems. Being overweight or obese increases the likelihood of developing diabetes, heart disease, stroke, breathing problems, some cancers, osteoarthritis and gall bladder disease.

Loveland Museum/Gallery Celebrates 75th Anniversary

The Loveland Museum/Gallery, on the corner of 5th and Lincoln Streets, this year celebrates its 75th Anniversary with special exhibits like the current “Portraits of the Prairie, Nebraska Landscapes that Inspired Willa Cather.” The show runs through April 15, and features watercolors, watercolor/pastels, scratchboard, and pen and ink works by former dentist turned artist, Richard Schilling, whose works have appeared in the Governor’s Invitational Art Show. Oftentimes, he wanders around the gallery and welcomes questions or comments.

About Town with Lavern Johnson January 26, 2011

It is supposed to snow again this week and again next week.  Although not a lot of snow, it gives us some needed moisture. There is a drought in Texas and other states, so be glad when we get some snow. The winds of over 100 mph last week did damage to trees, fences, and roofs, etc.  At least it got rid of all that ice, which is the most we can say for it.
