For the next daytrip suggestion, I’ll concentrate on historic Georgetown. A long time ago when my husband and I were dating, we’d go skiing then stop on the downhill drive from Eisenhower Tunnel in Georgetown for dinner. By the time we ate a bite, the heavy traffic had cleared away and it was smooth driving into Denver.

Entertaining The Kids In Metro Denver

The unseasonably warm weather this March fooled Coloradoans into thinking spring is actually here. However, I’ve experienced Colorado snowstorms in May. My Texas brother swears it snowed one Fourth of July when he visited Denver and we attended a fireworks show. I remember it was cold; my pictures prove that I loaned his wife a heavy coat.

Ready to Hunt Colorado

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife 2012 Big Game Hunting brochure is now available and limited license applications are being accepted for this fall's big-game hunts. License applications for deer, elk, pronghorn, moose, sheep, goat and bear are due Tuesday, April 3.

For 2012, Colorado Parks and Wildlife has updated the interactive online version of the big game brochure that features videos with online application tips and hunting tips to use in the field. New tables in the brochure also help hunters easily identify units where licenses are valid and whether a hunter can hold more than one license at a time.

To Fly Or Drive, That Is The Question This Summer

Many years ago my friend’s nine-year -old daughter suggested the family buy a motor home so they could drive to Hawaii. Little did she know that sometimes a destination can only be reached by airplanes or boats. With gas prices rising hourly, Channel 9 News did a study recently on which is cheaper: to fly or drive. So, I did a comparison of my own for our Minnesota trip to celebrate a 100th birthday over July 4th.

Loveland Museum/Gallery Celebrates 75th Anniversary

The Loveland Museum/Gallery, on the corner of 5th and Lincoln Streets, this year celebrates its 75th Anniversary with special exhibits like the current “Portraits of the Prairie, Nebraska Landscapes that Inspired Willa Cather.” The show runs through April 15, and features watercolors, watercolor/pastels, scratchboard, and pen and ink works by former dentist turned artist, Richard Schilling, whose works have appeared in the Governor’s Invitational Art Show. Oftentimes, he wanders around the gallery and welcomes questions or comments.

Nine tips for Packing Smart

The Christmas decorations are stored away; the holiday parties are long over; and the football season soon comes to an end. It is time to consider 2012 vacations. Whether you travel far or near, make your plans early. Airlines, except Southwest, charge for luggage. One checked bag, a carry-on and a shoulder bag or backpack are all you need for most destinations. The size of the checked bag depends on how long you will be away and the activities planned.
