Frequent travelers often collect keepsakes from their destinations: Christmas ornaments, postcards, and other items. Once friends learn of the traveler’s passion, they tend to add to the collection. Grace and Carl Hittle in Fort Collins have traveled all over the world and collected nativity sets.

For several years, our son begged us to visit Crested Butte where he owns a house he rents when he or his business partner don’t want to use it themselves. A little out of the way and about 255 miles from Lyons, the trip is well worth the effort.

About 205 miles from Lyons, or a three and a half hour drive, you’ll find one of the first scenic highways of Colorado, the Highway of Legends. You take Rte. 160, west toward LaVeta where the Highway of Legends actually begins at Rte. 12.
