Fall Fest 2010 is scheduled to open to the public on September 25. As the 2009 “Best Maze Design” winner at the North American Farmer's Direct Marketing Association
Conference, they have a lot to live up to in 2010. This year’s Maze is 30 acres and is in its 12th season, which makes it the largest and longest-running in Colorado. A tribute to the state was selected for this year’s maze; boasting nearly 7.5 miles of trail, carving out an intricate wilderness scene complete with a bear, a bald eagle and a moose.
Each year the maze is done by a corn-maze designer who creates the image on a computer. The design is then plugged into a Global Positioning System (GPS) on a tractor. The tractor driver then follows the lines and cuts out the maze.
“We cut the corn in early June when the corn is only six-inches tall. It takes about a day to cut out all seven plus miles of trail,” said Rachelle Wegele. “In the past, you had to draw the picture on a grid; recreate the grid with string in the field and then use a tiller to create the paths. Using the GPS makes mazes like ours possible.”
In addition to being known for their maze, Anderson Farms Fall Fest offers fun for people of all ages. Guests can choose the perfect carving pumpkin and fall decorations with more than 26 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds. Fall Fest 2010 hosts a variety of family-friendly activities including pumpkin-patch hayrides, farm animals, a barrel train, a smaller hay-bale maze for younger visitors, face painting, gem mining, great food and much more. This year, they have also added pedal karts.
Fall Fest 2010 is open daily from September 25 through October 31. Anderson Farms is located at 6728 County Road 3-1/4 in Erie. Visit www.AndersonFarms.com for directions, times and pricing.
