The Colorado Division of Wildlife will host a day-long outdoor skills event near beautiful Red Feather Lakes this month to introduce families and newcomers to wildlife recreation.

The Poudre Rendezvous Outdoor Skills Day will take place at the Ben Delatour Scout Ranch on County Road 68C ,September 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Colorado families are so lucky to be surrounded by mountains and plains and many wildlife species, but many people haven’t had experience with the outdoors,” said Shane Craig, Poudre North District Wildlife Manager.  “We want to provide a safe, comfortable opportunity for beginners to try archery, fishing and shooting, and to get acclimated to the natural world.”

The Ben Delatour Scout Ranch is the perfect setting for first-timers to step outside, breathe the fresh mountain air and see some of Colorado’s common wildlife.  Hour-long skills sessions will allow attendees to learn the basics from experts, with each session followed by a short walk to the next activity.   Participants will leave with enough knowledge to take their friends and families outdoors with confidence.
“Our lives tend to be hectic. We are realizing that activities like this can help create family memories,” said Mary McCormac, Education Coordinator for the northeast region of the DOW. “Wildlife recreation offers the chance to get outside away from the TV, computers, and video games and enjoy nature together.”

In addition to the scheduled activities, a number of outdoor organizations will be on hand to show participants where to go next in their exploration of wildlife recreation. They will include:

  • Big Thompson Bowhunters
  • Colorado Wildlife Heritage Foundation
  • Ducks Unlimited
  • Fort Collins Youth Archery
  • Glacier View Fire Department
  • Jax Sporting Goods
  • Larimer County Department of Natural Resources
  • Mule Deer Foundation
  • REI
  • Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
  • Rocky Mountain Flycasters
  • Trout Unlimited
  • US Forest Service
  • Wildland Awareness and Education Institute

Registration for the event is required and is limited to 300 attendees. The cost is $5 per registrant, which includes lunch.  For additional information and to register for the event, please go to:
