In honor of National Fall Prevention Day this Friday, Sept. 23, Boulder County Aging Services would like to remind community members about the many local resources available for older adults.

“There are many resources in the county that can help with the prevention of falls,” said Healthy Aging Programs Manager Teresa DeAnni. “ Local senior centers offer classes such as Matter of Balance and N’Balance to help with balance and strength and are also able to provide additional resources. Using community resources is the best thing an older adult can do for themselves.”

Checklists that provide tips for making homes safe are available at local senior centers and the Boulder County Aging Services office at 3492 Broadway in Boulder. CareConnect, a local nonprofit agency, also provides and installs in-home handrails and grab bars.

“Hospitals also offer classes and services,” DeAnni said. “Physical and Occupational Therapists can provide an assessment and give suggestions on strengthening and balancing. They can even provide an in-home evaluation so that your home can become fall-proof.”
