Ronald Eugene DeVeny, 77, of Lyons, Colorado died September 25, 2010, at Hospice Care Center of Boulder. He was born June 27, 1933, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Willard and Marjorie (Ferdon) DeVeny. Ron passed from this life under the soft, caring touch of his loving wife Shirley and daughter Debra, along with family, friends, and his little dog Bridgett who laid by his side until the end. Ron led us through the very last days of his life, and our lives are richer for having that privilege.
Ron married Shirley Derr on May 25, 1952, in Henry, Nebraska. They moved to Estes Park, Colorado in 1953.
Ron was a printer by trade; he began his career as a linotype operator while in high school, and worked at the Logan, Kansas, Mitchell, and Scottsbluff, Nebraska newspapers. After moving to Colorado he worked for the Estes Park Gazette then moved to Boulder and worked for the Boulder Camera before opening his own print shop with his wife Shirley. Ron and Shirley moved to Lyons Colorado in 1964, where they owned and operated the Blue Mountain Inn Bar and Restaurant from 1967 – 1971. Ron then returned to the printing trade and worked for Trinity Printing in Longmont, Colorado until he retired.
Ron’s wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the love of his life. Ron’s hobbies were teaching the grandchildren to fish, wood carving, and playing golf. Ron belonged to the Lyons Lions Club and the Longmont Rotary Club for many years.
Ron was preceded in death by his son Dennis E. DeVeny, grandson Christopher F. Anthony, brother Ken DeVeny, and his parents.
Ron is survived by his wife Shirley Ann DeVeny of Lyons, his daughter Debra K. Anthony and her husband John Freeborn of Longmont, grandson Robert W. Anthony and his wife Carol (great grandchildren Zach, Amber, Jacob and Logan Anthony) of Lakewood, grandson Joshua E. Anthony of Longmont, granddaughter Melissa J. Boone (great grandchild Taylor Supino)of Longmont, grandson Tyson W. DeVeny and partner Jamie Marker of Casper, Wyoming, granddaughter Ashley A. DeVeny and partner Adam Eddy (great grandchildren Caden Pandolfi and Paige Eddy) of Douglas, Wyoming. Along with numerous other relatives.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 2, 2010 at The River Church, 18668 North St. Vrain Drive, Lyons, Colorado. Cremation has been held, a private internment will be at a later date.
