Kenneth Warren Clayton Helms died November 27, 2011 at his home in Lyons, CO at the age of 61. He was born in Pekin, Illinois on January 21, 1950. He graduated from Ocean Township High School and attended Johnson State in Vermont.
He served in the United States Air Force from February 1, 1971 until May 5, 1972.
Ken was a former member of the Labor’s Union #720 in Denver and was an iron worker with the Iron Worker’s Local # 24, Denver, for 25 years, including work on Denver International Airport, Coors Field, Amgen Medical Building, Flatirons Mall, Rocky Flats Super Fund Cleanup, and the Las Vegas City Center, among others.
He is survived by his mother, Geraldine Clayton of Ocean Gate, NJ; sisters, Barbara Mackey, Tennessee, Gail Drogan, Olathe, KS, and Patti Moschella, Colts Neck, NJ; brothers, Brian Helms of Asbury Park, NJ, and Bob Clayton of Ocean Township, NJ; Barbara Welke, partner of 18 years; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Helms; step-father Francis Clayton; brother, Duane Helms; and sister, Donna Helms.
Funeral services will be held at Woolley’s Funeral home in Long Branch, NJ and burial at Woodbine Cemetary, Oceanport, NJ. A summer memorial at Apple Valley Farmstead in Lyons to be announced.
