It is with great sadness that Mitch and Sandy Nielsen, of Lyons, announce the death of their son Gabriel Nielsen, age 33, from injuries he sustained in a two-car automobile accident last week in Longmont. Gabe
was the most loving, caring person you could have ever met, and the best father you could have ever imagined. He loved every minute of life, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Gabe was a positive, joyful, and a genuinely good person who you couldn’t help but love. He was our “Mountain Man,” who made us laugh, smile, and brightened our day. We love you Gabe, and we will miss you so much. Thank you for everything.
Gabriel Nielsen was just finishing up his final credits at the University of Colorado, in Boulder, and was anticipating earning a degree in geographic information systems (GIS). He had just completed an internship with Boulder County Open Space. He is survived by his parents, Mitch and Sandy, of Lyons, his sister, Cherish Francis, of Minnesota (who was visiting Colorado and riding with him at the time of the accident and is listed in fair condition), his two-year old daughter, Avery (also a passenger in the car, and listed in critical condition at Children’s Hospital Colorado), and his wife, Brandy Nielsen of North Boulder. The trio was returning home to North Boulder after a shopping trip to Longmont, when a truck crossed the centerline and collided with Nielsen’s automobile.
A memorial fund has been set up to help the family deal with the massive medical bills. Donations can be sent to: First National Bank, c/o Gabriel Nielsen Family Fund, 1155 Canyon, Suite 100, Boulder, CO 80302.
