Marguerite Thadella Peoples, 97, of Lyons, died June 23, 2011 at her home. She was born November 8, 1913 in Gonzales, Texas the daughter of Thaddeus and Carrie Estella (Day) Cowen. She was first married to Williams Clayton Metcalf and then to Floyd Eldon Peoples. They both preceded her in death.
Marguerite moved to Lyons in 1962, where she opened the Lyons Café, becoming an institution in the town until its closure on June 2, 2010. She loved to travel and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include her daughters Agnes Burks of Bellingham, WA and June (Charles H.) Stacy of Lyons, CO and sister Louise Parker of Blackwell, OK and sister Ethel Crane of Missoula, MT. She is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Sandy Burks, her brothers Tom, Carl and Jim Cowen and her sisters Jessie Anderson and Annette Anderson and son-in-law Charlie Burks.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011.
