Living In The Aftermath of an 500 year flood-Lyons Strong

Living In The Aftermath of an 500 year flood-Lyons Strong

By Lyons Bluesologist, David McIntyre

Not to state the obvious, but what a mess. I am one of the lucky ones living on higher ground in Lyons. There are so many friends and peers in Lyons in very bad shape it continues to tug at my heart.

Sundays in September

By Dave McIntyre, Lyons Bluesologist

Sundays at Oskar Blues in Lyons have become my favorite shows, I love the more mellow music and enjoy watching the youngsters and oldsters dancing and enjoy the tunes together. These are all early 6 to 9 p.m., free, and all ages’ shows, and are usually very well attended. I have often been asked why we don’t charge for these shows; the answer is Dale and I want to give some free music back to the community as a thank you for all their support in helping us bring live music to Lyons. In September we have a

Music And Fun For The Whole Family

This is the fifteenth year of the free Thursday Night Summer Concert Series in Sandstone Park, sponsored by the Lyons Parks & Recreation Department. The event has grown yearly since its inception, and has really taken off this year with the addition of food trucks, the Lyons Farmette’s farmers market, local booths offering massages, and the Lyons Golden Gang selling wine, beer, and soft drinks. The music goes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with bands who have ties to Lyons playing for us.

I started booking the bands and helping with their sound almost a decade ago it has been a wonderful, enjoyable time; seeing all the youngsters dancing and running around, and their parents and friends relaxing and enjoying the music.  I meant to write this article earlier this summer but something always came up. But I do want to thank Danny Shafer and his band, Jeff Scroggins & Colorado, The Blue Canyon Boys, and Ash & Andria Ganley with Terry Kishiyama for their

Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks

By Dave McIntyre, Lyons Bluesologist

In a career that has its start in the beginnings of the San Francisco rock music scene as a drummer for the nearly forgotten rock group, the Charlatans (the band that some say, “started it all”), through a series of classic recordings in the 1970’s as leader of Dan Hicks and

Pokey LaFarge & His Big Band

Music fans get ready to be transposed back to the 1930s when Pokey LaFarge and The South City Three (plus two horn players) descend upon Oskar Blues in Lyons on Friday, June 14, starting at 9 p.m. Only in their twenties themselves, these guys know how to delight modern-day audiences while evoking images of days gone by. Though heavily influenced by the greats of the 20’s and 30’s, these guys are no novelty act. They still manage to be authentic, original, fresh, and most important of all, fun!

The band writes and performs songs with titles like, “Keep Your Hands Off My Gal” and “So Long Honeybee, Goodbye.” They play an old-time
