With final additions including John Prine and Colin Hay, Planet Bluegrass is excited to announce the single-day lineup for the 23rd Annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival (August 16 to18). These new additions join a lineup that already included Loreena McKennitt, John Butler Trio, Colin Meloy, Patty Griffin, and many others.
Legendary songwriter John Prine returns to Lyons for the first time since 2010, when his classic-filled Sunday night set closed the 20th Annual Folks Festival. This year’s lineup also welcomes a second Colin to the lineup (Decemberists leader Colin Meloy performs on Sunday), as Scottish-Australian Colin Hay (leader of ‘80s stars Men At Work) shares the emotional depth of his twenty-year-long solo career along with some of his early hits.
This year’s lineup again introduces many new artists to the Colorado audience: Lucius combines classic girl-group harmonies with a rhythmic indie edge; Seryn creates epic panoramic crescendos from a dozen instruments and voices; the sweet husband-wife pair of Johnnyswim continue the rich tradition of roots duets.
Perhaps more than any of its twenty-three years, this year’s Folks Festival makes good on the musical and geographic diversity of the festival’s mission to create a “summit on the song.” From Celtic-world fusion (Loreena McKennitt) to Australian groovy (John Butler Trio) to legends (John Prine) to emotional spoken word (Shane Koyczan) to French-Canadian female a cappella (Chic Gamine), this is a fascinating lineup.
A limited number of discount tickets for Lyons residents are available now exclusively at The Stone Cup & Kitchen. Three-day Folks Festival passes are discounted to $120 ($15 discount) and single-day tickets are discounted to $50 ($5 discount). Payment must be made via cash or local check only. No phone or Internet orders will be accepted. A local ID or proof of residency in the 80540 zip code is required. This offer is limited to two tickets per person.
