With Turkey Day behind us, and Christmas (and all the eating opportunities that afford themselves to us during that time) fast approaching, now might actually be a good time to get “a leg up” on those pesky New Year’s resolutions that involve “getting in shape” and “losing a few pounds.” And a great way to get started toward those elusive goals is at the CrossFit St.Vrain facility right here in Lyons.

The facility, or gym if you prefer, is located at 103 Stone Canyon Drive, in the building right behind U-Pump-It. It is run by Estes Park resident, Eric Adams, and the designated workout times are: Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. (perfect for those who like to start the day with a workout before heading off to the salt mine), or 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. (ideal for those who want to workout after dropping off the kiddies at school). Or, if you prefer to sleep in, and get your sweat going after work, there are Tuesday and Thursday workouts from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. (perfect time to get in some exercise while your significant other cleans up after the evening meal). There is even a “kids” class, Tuesdays from 6 to 6:30 p.m., to get those little couch tater tots active before they become full-blown potatoes! New classes for all will be added as the demand increases, and if need be and they so desire, clients may also attend classes at the CrossFit Estes facility in Estes Park.

The CrossFit philosophy is a functional movement program that is constantly varied (this helps prevent the dreaded plateau-effect) and performed at high intensity. What this means is CrossFit helps you do everything in your life better. The needs of grandmothers and elite athletes vary by load and intensity, but not in function. In other words, the motion (and technique) of an Olympic power lifter is none too different than an elderly client who needs to place a ten to fifteen pound box on the shelf in a closet. The program stresses proper mechanics (to avoid injuries), consistency, and intensity to improve the client’s overall strength and cardiovascular efficiency. Before beginning the program, clients are asked to attend a “how to” session, to familiarize themselves with the equipment, learn the proper techniques to avoid injuries, and maximize results.

To find out more information about this revolutionary workout program, or to schedule an introductory “how to” session, please call (970) 227-0499 or go to their website, www.crossfitstvrain.com. CrossFit St. Vrain offers a 20% discount for military, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMTs. There are also couples/family rates.
