After more than ten years of serving the gardeners of the Lyons vicinity, Mary Bukszar, owner of the Ute Trail Greenhouse, has decided to close down her

operation. She says this decision has come after much soul-searching, but will give her a chance to “re-organize and re-invent” herself and her business.

Bukszar says between the downturn in the economy and the repaving project during the summer of 2009, she just wasn’t able to keep the greenhouse going. She plans to use the winter months to find a new, smaller location, so she can continue to focus on the vegetable and landscaping portion of her business. She hopes to continue to “green up the world, one plant at a time.”

Bukszar says now is a great time for local gardeners to find incredible bargains for their fall planting. She if offering all her remaining plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, etc. for 75% off, if you pay in cash. She is also discounting her landscaping rocks, the one-of-a-kind hand painted Adirondack chairs, as well as “any of your favorite in-ground plants that have decorated the premises.”

One of the things that Bukszar takes the most pride in, are her 160 varieties of tomatoes. She has over 60 varieties growing in her test-garden, including many varieties of heirlooms. “If the weather cooperates and the tomatoes ripen, I plan on holding a tasting on or about September 12,” says Bukszar. The cost of the tasting will be $5. Keep an eye on the website, www.utetrail.com, for updates on how the tomatoes are progressing and the definitive date.
