Lyons Garden Club had a great meeting, Wednesday August 25, at the Firehouse.  This was our last meeting of the season and Erica Althans-Schmidt, who is Gwynne Owens’ daughter of our local Gwynne’s Greenhouse, spoke to the group about different plants, both annual and perennial, which will provide vibrant color through the fall and even past various frost levels.

Fall is a great time to plant perennials so stop by Gwynne’s Greenhouse, everything is on sale.

Our season is coming to an end, but planning for next year has already started.  We will be holding our second annual “Daffodil Drive” in the coming weeks.

Last year we raised enough money to purchase 1,000 daffodils (300 were also generously donated by Sharon McConnell).  This year, our goal is to raise enough money to buy 1,500 bulbs, the majority of which will be daffodil bulbs but we’ll try and add a few other varieties this year as well.  We hope to plant most of them at the Mushroom Planter on High Street, the “Welcome to Lyons” sign and in other areas around town.  Spring was much prettier around town this year and we hope it looks even better next year.
