Lora and I had the pleasure of dining at La Mariposa of Lyons last week.
You’ve seen the changes on the exterior. There are many improvements on the interior too.
We had difficulty choosing entrees.
Lora chose Chiles Rellanos Poblanos with black beans, spinach, Mexican cheese, and a side of poblano soup.
She wouldn’t share it. I chose the Super Supreme Burrito.
I should have shared it. It was big. Some burritos are too mild. Some are too hot. This one was just right. To me, that means there is enough heat to warm the mouth but not so much that the fire alarm rings. I can’t say anything about desert because I had no room.
Would I take my spouse there again? Yes. Maybe next time I’ll get the rib-eye with avocado, onions, and chili. Or perhaps the shrimp with ranchero and cilantro.
The Mexican sausage scrambled with eggs and green chilies sounds good.
I have their menu in front of me as a write and I can’t make up my mind now.
I guess the only solution is repeat visits. Moderate pricing makes this possible.
As a younger man, would I take my sweetheart there? Yes. They have a new fireplace with some comfy chairs. Many romances have started well with a warm fire to the back, warm company nearby, a good supply of chips and salsa and prompt bar service.
Would I take my visiting relatives there?
They have a back room with large table settings that are perfect for private parties. The new interior is refined enough to keep picky relatives quiet.
Would I go there for happy hour? Yes.
The margaritas are robust, well mixed, and tall.
The Mexican Potato Skins come with a green chili sauce and lots of cheese.
Would I go with softball buddies? Yes.
The Chipolte Chicken Wings will be a hit and the full bar kept busy.
But we might be too dirty and smelly for a restaurant this nice.
