The 2011 Lyons Studio Tour will take place this year on Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with an opening night party at the ohm salon + gallery (441 Main Street) on Friday, May 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Studio Tour has been an annual springtime event in Lyons, where local artists invite the public into their homes, studios, and gardens to view their work in a small town setting, easily accessible by bike, on foot, and even by kayak. Extending for a 12-mile loop, mainly through town and along beautiful Apple Valley Road, art
on exhibit will include everything from jewelry to furniture, in addition to traditional fine arts such as painting and sculpture. The tour provides a great way to actively explore art and the process of making it.
New this year will be a group exhibit at the ohm salon + gallery, which will be displayed during the weekend event. “We simply would not exist without art or the ability to make art, this goes for bees too, of course,” says Jul Swann, owner of ohm salon + gallery. Art and recreation are both significant features of the Lyons community year round; the Studio Tour brings the two together in creative collaboration and invites the public to experience Lyons from a local perspective. Encouraging a bike route of the tour to honor National Bike Month, there will be bike sculpture and a parade for visitors to participate in on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (visit website for more info). Artists will exhibit their work in their studio while working in groups in a natural setting outdoors and in quaint galleries. The Clarifier Project (across the pedestrian bridge at Black Bear Hole) will also have open work hours (where the public is invited to participate) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., both days of the tour.
All participating artists will be listed both on the map and on the website and several artists will be featured on the Lyons Studio Tour blog in May.
Maps of the tour will be available at many Lyons businesses and galleries in addition to Boulder Arts and Crafts on the Pearl Street Mall, as well as a downloadable online.
There will be many ways for visitors to get involved in the artist spirit this year with bike sculpture, stone mosaic, kids crafts, artist demos, and a parade. Watch the blog for posts on activities to participate in.
