About Town

About Town - June 6, 2013

Another week gone by.  A busy one, too.  The streets were filled with kayaks, canoes, and dogs. Lots of folks came to the Lyons Outdoor Games. Some liked it, some didn’t. The music was loud but good, and the fireworks seemed very loud (due, to reflecting off the hills), however, very enjoyable.  These are the fireworks that had been in storage, since there was a fireban at the time of the Christmas parade, and the guarantee would have expired in six months.  It was fun to see them, though, as it gave us spirit!

Living close to a park or school is always a pain to the nearby residents when large events are scheduled (when buying a home, you have to watch those things, if you want to have your peace and quiet).

MONDAY WAS MEMORIAL DAY: a time of flags, programs, memorials, gatherings at the cemeteries to say a word to our loved ones who have gone before us, and to reminisce about the days gone by and about the fun we had. Another week gone by.  It was 80 degrees today! Too hot for May!   Only one more week of school.  How time flies.  Be sure to attend all the last of school events. Over sixty students will be graduating from Lyons High, most  receiving scholarships and awards.  We are proud of our students, and our school, being one of only two schools of the St. Vrain District making it to the top 5% in US World Report. Congratulations.

Yesterday was May Day! In the olden days, folks would leave a flower on your doorstep, ring the door bell, and run.  If you caught them, you got a kiss. It would be nice to do that again!

More snow is on the way. However, we have had lovely weather and warm sun to make the flowers bloom.

CONGRATULATIONS to Lyons Middle/Senior High and Peak to Peak Charter School who are among the top schools in Colorado, according to U.S. News and World Report. Peak to Peak was ranked first in the state, with Lyons at 16th.  They said sixty-two percent of the seniors took AP
