Finding Fossils Close to Home

I moved to Colorado from Texas right out of college when I was hired to teach in Jefferson County. I stood awestruck at the sight of Red Rocks Amphitheater from the playground of Bear Creek Elementary. Amazed, I listened to my second graders talk about collecting arrowheads at nearby Soda Lakes. Our favorite unit included dinosaurs and a field trip to the Natural History Museum in Denver. That was a long time ago.

Another week gone by, and not too bad. Windy, but it actually warmed up a little. Spring is right around the corner. This Sunday morning (or late Saturday night), turn your clocks ahead one hour.  It will be nice to have longer days.

Ah, President’s Day,  a holiday to honor all our Presidents. The TV tells the life of several: what they went through, some rich, others poor, some killed, etc.  You do have to admire anyone who is willing to be President to try to rule the United States with all its problems, but we can be glad we live here, as most other countries are worse.  They say:  “Freedom, isn’t Free,”  How true! And, of course, if we don’t like the USA we can move elsewhere!

Another week gone by, cold and windy, but I see some crocuses (or are they croqui?) blooming, so spring is near.

SUCH A WIND!
93 miles per hour here in Lyons. Worse than Boulder, which is unusual.

Thanks to the Lyons firemen, who contained that fire in Stone Canyon so fast.  They really did wonders, as hard as the wind was blowing. That was truly a scary situation.  There doesn’t seem to be any answer as to the wildfires. We want rain and snow, which  makes the grass grow, which then dries up in the hot summer months, creating a lot of dry grass to burn!  Be sure to watch that you don’t start a fire by putting hot ashes out, or sparks from a vehicle or mower, etc. Take care!

HERE IT IS, VALENTINE’S WEEK!
Let’s hope you all had a great time, and bought that Valentine!

It is still cold and snowy, with more snow to come. A good time for the Polar Bear Club. brrrrr

Thanks to Bill Martin, who delivered my Meals on Wheels this morning, consisting of Chicken Cordon Bleu and a package of Sweetheart Candies and to Mary Lou of The Lyons  Golden Gang, who sent along a “Marshmallow Melt” to brighten our day!  Valentine’s Day is always sad for me as it is for other widows or widowers.  Mr. LaVerne always brought a box of candy and put it on my typewriter.  I still miss that, but son, Jerry,
