THE GOLDEN GANG enjoyed songs by the Quarry Gals last Friday, held their Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 23, and will hold a New Year’s party this Friday (Dec. 30). A large group of Brownie Scouts - Troop #3970 decorated the Christmas tree and brought cards. The Montessori class came to sing Christmas carols, and Vance French continues to entertain the group with his array of songs. Thanks to all!
MARY LOU WALLACE sends a note: “Thank you for voting me back to The Golden Gang. We are all going to work together and make this the best year ever. Have a very blessed Holiday.” Mary Lou had given her notice to retire, but had second thoughts and re-applied. Welcome back.
OUR THANKS!
The Lyons Food Bank, Rev. Sam Tallent and Higher Ground Ministries, Lyons Student Activists, and all others who donated and distributed over fifty large boxes of Christmas groceries, including a ham, bread, fruit, and lots of cans and boxes of food, which should last several weeks into the New Year. WORK IS TO BEGIN SOON AT THE LYONS REDSTONE MUSEUM
With the Quester’s Grant the museum steps, sidewalks, sign, and wall will be repaired with a stone inlay to the southwest of the west steps to be sure the sewerline is reachable. The Historical Society received a $3500 grant from the Stagecoach Quester’s group of Boulder in October, and the work is to be accomplished by Milo Construction (the contractor who did the museum rehabilitation - new roof, windows, paint, etc.) Our thanks to all!

Trustee Ed Bruder returned Sunday from spending two weeks in Boston, visiting his mother.
Karen Ryan has returned from a trip to Dearborn, Mich., celebrating the 75th birthday of her mother. Barbara Welke traveled to California to spend Christmas and New Year’s with her son, Todd, and his wife, Kelly. The Forsberg family (Bob, Leona, and four daughters and their families) spent their holidays in Florida visiting with two daughters who live there now. Katie and Sara, daughters of Dave and Jenny Lock, are both home for Christmas. Katie has an acting job in New York City and Sara is finishing college this year.
Shirley Werner spent the Holidays in Illinois with her son and daughter and five grandchildren.
She shares this note from a former neighbor: “We used to live at Quartz Way, but moved to Longmont seven years ago. Wayne was so giving. When we first moved to Boulder and were waiting to get in our house, I had to drive my son to Lyons High School every morning and Wayne would open the information center for me. I said he didn’t’ need to do that, but he insisted. The Town of Lyons has lost a good man. I hope you find comfort in knowing how many people’s lives he touched”.

AND THANKS, also, to those who donated and helped the D.W. King family and community to save his bird collection which is housed in the Lyons Redstone Museum. Thanks go to: Jennifer Roth, Anita (Nina) Davis, Shirley DeVeny, LaVern M. Johnson, Lyons Historical Society, Rivers Colorworks & Design (Cathy Rivers), Mary E.\Donald L. Hunt, Christine M. Ralston, Steven\Deborah Simms, Eileen\Forrest Yelverton, Breaking Through Youth Group, Gem Construction, Ruth C. Major, Steven R. Novak, The Lyons Recorder, Judy P. Smith, Lyons Community Church, Ahlberg Funeral Home, Diane H. Briggle, Ray & Dora Babcock, Christine Marie Jackier, Lyons Physical Therapy, Inc.. (Bronwyn Muldoon), Gerald L. Johnson, Dan Sidall Real Est., Inc., Karen\David Selden, Kathleen Spring, Vance French, Sapan (Kunga) Rinpoche, Tommy Cox, Col Thomas and residents of Broomfield Place, Dr. Matthew Brett, Redstone Review, Lyons Recorder, Lyons Boy Scouts, Lyons Food Bank, Boulder County Housing Authority, Walmart Pharmacy, Bank of the West and all others that helped in any way.
Through this help, funds were provided for bus fare from McAllen, Texas, for D.W. King’s daughter, Ticha King, husband, Mario, and sons, Raul and Joey, on March 23, and to rent a U-Haul. for their return on April 1, loaded with D. W’s items, and Kunga who helped drive. We sincerely thank all for donating to this cause, which was crucial to get his family here to save his items; to have a memorial service for DW; and to spread his ashes at one of his favorite “eagle watching” spots. D. W. will be remembered as Lyons’ Birdman for publishing bird articles and his bird paintings. He was sensitive to anything that disturbed the birds and other wildlife, and strived to save them and their habitat. Thanks also to all who donated time and energy to house the family while cleaning out D.W’s crowded apartment at the Bloomfield Senior Apartments, and helped hold a garage sale. The bird collection is housed and displayed in the Lyons Redstone Museum (which is what started the entire effort), as we didn’t want everything thrown away. The museum is open daily, June through September. Funds collected now are for plaques by the mural at the Visitors’ Center which Mr. King helped paint; in Meadow Park-one place where he watched the eagles, and on his bird display in the museum (send to Box 9, Lyons, CO).
