Another week gone by, and cold. Good ice skating weather.  Rent skates from the Lyons Parks & Recreation and have fun. Have you made your resolutions for this year?

GREAT NEWS
The Lyons High School was featured on Channel 9 News Monday morning, stating that even though small, Lyons was in the top 3% of the state. The story stated, the Lyons Lions have fewer than 300 students at the high school level, yet it scored an A+ rating from the ColoradoSchoolGrades. Over 80 percent of the students are involved in extra-curricular

activities.  The school’s athletics and other programs are main events for the entire town.  The school pulls the community together.  Lyons has been successful, too, in taking home numerous state titles in athletics and other programs, which has become a tradition of excellence at Lyons. Visit www.coloradoschoolgrades.com to view the results. Our fullest congratulations to Lyons High School and staff for gaining this recognition.

Editor’s Note: Lyons Middle School received an A- rating, and Lyons Elementary School received an A rating! Congratulations to all. To view the 9News Video, click here.

LAST SATURDAY, Tim Tebow was mentioned in one million tweets.  We have to find time to watch the Broncos play New England Patriots this Saturday, at 6 p.m. Yea Broncos! It has been a long time since the Broncos were in the playoffs.  We remember the glory days of John Elway, and fans such as Ruth Martin, who dressed in orange for several weeks. Lyons held a Bronco Parade with the Lyons High Band and school floats, all wearing orange, to wish them luck. Is it happening again? GOOD LUCK, BRONCOS!

THE LYONS PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION held their monthly meeting Monday evening. Reed Farr was Chairman in the absence of Mary Chase.  A report was given on the upcoming River Corridor Grant, which is due in March.  The Lyons project will join the Boulder County (the Pella/Braly Trail) and Longmont (River Park Project), all on the St. Vrain River. GOCO will review the project, which will be combined as one grant called the “St. Vrain Corridor Recreation and Educational Project.” A small river entity (spray\pond\ditch) will be included for the youngsters. Other grants to be applied for are: a Mini-Grant for the tennis/basketball court, and the Bohn Park Project.

WITH SYMPATHY
We express our sympathy at the death of Fred Nicorre, formerly of Lyons.  Fred and Madeline lived in Spring Gulch for over 15 years, then moved to Longmont, and then to Loveland. They moved here from Los Angeles, and raised their three boys in Lyons. They square danced with the Red Rock Ramblers of Lyons, and Hix ‘n Chix of Longmont for over 40 years. Fred worked mostly for IBM. The couple enjoyed spending the winter as “snowbirds” in Arizona.  We express our sympathy. Services will be at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 3rd Ave. at 11 a.m. this Friday, January 13.
